Temporary Accommodation

There is a good chance that for at least the first few weeks of your stay you will need to find temporary accommodation until you find your dream house.

The CERN Hostel

The most popular choice is the CERN hostel. These rooms are provided at a reduced rate by CERN as a temporary measure for new starters and visitors. They can be booked in advance for short stays (1 night to 6 months) and provide a cheap and convienently located place to stay while you search for your dream appartment. Places are however limited and you should bear this in mind when choosing to stay at the hostel. Booking in advance is essential and during peak times (i.e July to September when the summer students are around) places may not be available at all.

Hotels

Cern and the local tourist information offices keep the details of hotels and hostels in Geneva and surrounding areas to suit every budget. As with the CERN hostel (and in fact any hotel) it is essential to book in advance. Finally don't forget to check where the hotel is located before booked. Some hotels are in areas that are difficult to reach CERN from without a car. If you are likely to be relying on public transport to get around you should look for a hotel on a major bus route (or if you are going to be working in Prevessin - within walking or cycling distance)
